Things to do in Navarino Island
South of the Beagle Channel lies Puerto Williams, the southernmost city in the world. The island offers the Dientes de Navarino circuit, the southernmost trek on the planet, the Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve and the living culture of the Yagán people, in an end-of-the-world landscape.
How to get to Navarino Island
There are three ways to Puerto Williams:
- Flight from Punta Arenas: regular flights of just over an hour (few seats, book early).
- Ferry from Punta Arenas: about 30 hours through the Fuegian channels; it sails once or twice a week.
- From Ushuaia (Argentina): in season, boats cross the Beagle Channel to Puerto Navarino and a transfer continues to Puerto Williams. Weather permitting.
The Dientes de Navarino circuit (about 53 km, 4 to 5 days) is not fully marked and has no refuges: go prepared and register your route with the police (Carabineros).
