Seeing Rapa Nui from the sea is an unparalleled experience, just as unforgettable as diving into some of the clearest waters in the world.
We invite you to enjoy a beautiful journey along the coastline in front of Hanga Roa, where you can admire views starting from the Ahu Tahai area, the sea caves off the Mataveri sector—visible only from the ocean—and continuing toward the islets known as Motu Nui, Motu Iti, and Motu Kao Kao. From this point, you’ll have a stunning view of the Orongo cliffs, the site where the Tangata Manu (Birdman) competition once took place, one of the key settings for traveling back in time and better understanding the organization of the remarkable Rapa Nui culture.
In addition, snorkeling can be enjoyed in this area, allowing you to observe marine flora and fauna in one of the clearest and warmest seas in the world. In the bays around Motu Nui, where the swell is very gentle, snorkeling is ideal. All that’s needed is a short wetsuit, fins, and a mask to admire the stunning underwater cliffs of the area, in some of the most crystal-clear waters on the planet, where visibility can reach up to 60 meters on calm days.
