About the event
In a fringe London, where organized crime and “legal” businesses are increasingly difficult to distinguish, The Opera for Three Cents exposes the corruption and hypocrisy of power. Premiered in Berlin in 1928, with dramaturgy by Bertolt Brecht and music by Kurt Weill, it uses dark humor, satire and songs such as” Mackie” to break with traditional theater and activate the spectator's critical thinking. Almost a century later, Gonzalo Pinto convenes great figures of Chilean national theater and students from the Theater Club, UNIACC and those from DETUCH, to pay tribute to Fernando González, who marked the formation of generations of artists and whose 1988 production is a reference in Chilean theater. The proposal combines the classic formation that he delivered with the social and dialectical content of the present, to bring to the stage the class struggle and the figure of a capitalism that resonates ever stronger in our society. The show also discusses the cultural changes that the country is experiencing, in particular with the valuation and empowerment of women. They are women who talk about love, politics, life decisions and individual and social values.
