El Museo Arqueológico de La Serena fue fundado el 3 de abril de 1943 por Francisco Cornely. En 1948 fue transferido a la entonces DIBAM, e incorporado en las obras del Plan Serena. 82 años al servicio del patrimonio arqueológico de Coquimbo.
